Suzuki e Vitara: NZ Launch, Price & 8-Year Warranty | Driven NZ

by mark.thompson business editor

Suzuki New Zealand has entered the electric vehicle market with the launch of the e Vitara, the brand’s first fully electric SUV. Priced from $54,990 during a limited introductory period (normally $56,990 for the 2WD model), the e Vitara represents a significant step up in price point for Suzuki NZ, entering the $50,000+ bracket for the first time with a current model. The all-wheel drive “Allgrip-e” version starts at $64,990.

The arrival of the e Vitara coincides with a substantial upgrade to Suzuki’s warranty offering in New Zealand. From April, all new Suzuki vehicles, including the e Vitara, will be covered by an 8-year/160,000km warranty – a considerable improvement over the previous 3-year/100,000km coverage with a powertrain extension to 5 years contingent on authorized servicing. Maintaining authorized servicing remains a requirement for the extended warranty to remain valid.

Developed in collaboration with Toyota, the e Vitara is built in India and is the largest Suzuki model ever produced, though only marginally longer overall (by 100mm) than the outgoing Vitara hybrid, as noted in a review by Driven Car Guide.

Electric AWD is called ‘Allgrip-e’, linking it to previous Suzuki 4×4 systems.

A Well-Equipped Electric Offering

Suzuki has positioned the e Vitara as a feature-rich vehicle, aiming to justify its higher price tag. Both the 2WD and AWD models come standard with a 10.1-inch touchscreen, a “floating” centre console design, a 7-speaker Infinity sound system with a subwoofer, customizable 12-colour ambient lighting, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, and Wi-Fi capabilities. A 10.25-inch digital instrument panel is also included, offering customizable displays.

Acknowledging a common consumer preference, Suzuki highlights that the e Vitara’s climate control system retains physical switchgear alongside digital controls. Keyless entry and an electric parking brake with a hold function are also standard features. The AWD variant uniquely includes a power distribution monitor integrated into the instrument panel, providing real-time information on how power is being allocated.

Powering the e Vitara is a 61kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery. The 2WD model achieves a range of up to 426km, while the AWD version offers 395km. Performance differs slightly between the two; the AWD accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 7.4 seconds, compared to 8.7 seconds for the 2WD model.

Charging and Customization

The e Vitara supports AC charging at a maximum rate of 7kW. DC fast charging is available, but at a relatively modest rate of 65kW. This charging speed is adequate for many users, but slower than some newer EVs on the market.

Suzuki is offering a degree of personalization with the e Vitara. A two-tone paint finish adds $1000 to the price, and a new exclusive colour, Land Breeze Green Pearl Metallic, is available for an additional cost. This colour is currently unique to the e Vitara within the Suzuki lineup.

What In other words for New Zealand EV Buyers

The Suzuki e Vitara’s arrival adds another option to the growing New Zealand electric vehicle market. The combination of a relatively affordable price point (especially with the introductory discount), a generous standard specification, and the new 8-year warranty aims to appeal to buyers seeking a practical and reliable electric SUV. The extended warranty is a particularly noteworthy feature, offering peace of mind for potential owners. The move into the $50,000+ price bracket signals Suzuki’s commitment to competing in the increasingly competitive EV space.

The e Vitara’s range, while competitive, is not class-leading, and its DC fast-charging speed is somewhat slower than some rivals. However, for many drivers, these factors may be less critical than overall value and the reassurance of a long warranty. The Allgrip-e AWD system, building on Suzuki’s established 4×4 expertise, could also be a draw for buyers in regions with challenging road conditions.

Suzuki NZ has confirmed the e Vitara is expected to arrive in New Zealand in the first quarter of 2026.

Suzuki will be releasing further details regarding specifications and availability closer to the launch date. Interested customers can register their interest through the Suzuki New Zealand website to receive updates.
