Tal Ben Haim Retires from Football after 17 Years: A Look Back at His Career

The end of his career has come: at the age of 34, Tal Ben Haim announced today (Tuesday) his final retirement from football. The striker who grew up in Hapoel Kfar Saba has come full circle in the team where he came to the senior level, Maccabi Petah Tikva, and announced his retirement on social media when he is expected to become responsible for the team’s scouting system from Malavas. The striker’s intention to retire was first published on the sport channel.

“Three months ago in the game (of course not) between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Maccabi Tel Aviv, it was the last time I got off the field and I knew it was the end, that I couldn’t do it anymore,” he wrote, “Today I sum up 17 and a half years of everything from everything, I I feel lucky that I was able to retire in the place where it all began, but I also know that this end is the beginning of something new that I am no less excited about.”

Ben Haim continued and said: “I’m proud of everything I’ve achieved and all the dreams that have become reality over the years. Thank you to everyone who helped, supported, encouraged and made me better. I couldn’t ask for more than that. Thank you, dear football, see you on the other side.”

“Thank you, dear football” (Maor Al-Kalsalsi) Ben Haim, son of former soccer player Ofir Ben Haim, played for the first time when he was six years old in the children’s wards of Hapoel Kfar Saba. In the 2007/08 season he became the top scorer in the youth league, and in May 2008 he made his debut in the Premier League. In total, Ben Haim spent six years in the senior team, until he was relegated to the National League in 2012.

In the summer of 2012, he moved to his next station – Hapoel Tel Aviv, in Media signed for half a million euros. After a season of five goals and seven assists in red, Ben Haim crossed the road – and moved to Maccabi Tel Aviv, with whom he was a partner in winning two championships, as well as the cup (as part of the treble season, under Paco Aystran). After four successful years in yellow, he moved to his only stop in Europe – the Czech Sparta Prague.

For three years he was in the uniform of the Czech luxury club, but rarely played – including an injury to the cruciate ligament. In July 2020 he returned to Israel to Maccabi Tel Aviv, spent two more years in Media, including winning the State Cup in the 2020/21 season. In the summer of 2022, he moved to Maccabi Petah Tikva when it was in the national league, he was a partner in the promotion with it last season and also to the current season in the Premier League, during which he finally decided to hang up his shoes.

In total, Ben Haim ends his career with 469 appearances in all competitions, 105 goals and 43 assists. He has 29 appearances and six goals in the Israel national team uniform.
