Tata studies installing a battery factory in Spain

The Indian automobile company Tata Motors, which is considering the possibility of building a battery factory in Spain, specifically in the province of Zaragoza.

The Indian company already announced at the beginning of the year its intention to install a battery factory for electric vehicles in Europe, in order to accelerate the electrification of Jaguar Land Rover, the brand of which it owns.

This was stated at the India Auto Expo car show held in Delhi by the financial director of Tata Motors, Pathamadai Balaji, who also pointed out that the battery cells manufactured in Europe will be sold to other car brands, beyond Tata Motors and Jaguar Land. Rover.

The Indian company is debating between the possibility of installing its new battery factory for electric vehicles between Zaragoza or a nearby city and another town located in the United Kingdom.

In case of materializing, Tata Motors project would join the Volkswagen battery gigafactory in Sagunto (Valencia) in Spain and could opt for the second call for aid from the Strategic Project for the Recovery and Economic Transformation of the Electric and Connected Vehicle (Perte VEC), of which there are still to be distribute 2,181 million euros.

To this is also added the battery factory of the Asian company Envision, which plans to build a plant in Navalmoral de la Mata (Cáceres) and has submitted various applications for aid to develop the project. In this sense, it was left out of the first call for Perte Vec and is currently eligible for 115 million euros from regional funds.

Tata Motors is India’s largest automobile group. It currently consists of Tata Motors, Jaguar and Land Rover, the latter two became part of its property after being purchased from Ford Motor Company.

As in the case of Tata Motors, the Slovak company Inobat is also deciding whether to install its next battery factory in Spain. In this case, the company is torn between Vallodolid and a city in the United Kingdom.
