Have you ever wondered what happens to the flowers coming from the temples of your city? No! See what Dr. Kiran Tiwari is doing with the flowers from Nainital’s Naina Devi temple and Gurudwara.

What ultimately happens to the flowers used in temples, gurudwaras or any festival in your city? However, in many cities, special plants have been set up to recycle it. But in most cities it is thrown into rivers or drains. By using this biodegradable waste, some women of Nainital have found their own source of employment.

‘Cheli Arts’ organization in Nainital, Uttarakhand works to promote Pahari products and Kumaoni culture. Recently this organization has been preparing designs on clothes with the help of these flowers and leaves. The special thing in this is that all this is being made from waste materials. This is an amazing idea of Dr. Kiran Tiwari, founder of Cheli Arts.

Actually it is eco print, in which fashionable things are made while keeping the environment safe. Even if the color released from clothes designed with this gets into water, there is no harm to the water. Cheli Arts is working on this design with this concept.

Dr. Kiran Tiwari told that this is a kind of botanical art. In this, things like dried flower petals, waste leaves, onion peels are printed on clothes. For this, women collect flowers from garlands of dried flowers from the nearby Naina Devi temple and Gurudwara. And then separate their petals and use them.

For printing, first the cloth is cleaned and washed and then dye of flower petals is made. It is applied on clothes and given attractive designs. This design made of flowers is known as ‘Phulari Arts’. At present they are making stoles, sarees and handkerchiefs etc. from these flowers.

But apart from clothes, these women are also making many types of organic products like natural Holi colors kumkum, pithiya and incense. This step of Kiran is not only important for the environment but she is also providing employment to 10 women of the mountains through this work.
