The piece, which premieres for the first time in Spainis part of the People Power Partnership, a participatory European project in public space that has a total of 14 partners from 15 different countries and takes place under a giant mirror that causes a great visual impact on the public.

“With this show we want to show the way in which we see society, what we feel, but also what we feel towards others” he assured this Friday morning, in a press release of graphics, Sigrun Frischtthe director alongside her daughter Luka, of a show she leads the German collective Pan.Optikum. According to the director, the fact that the dancers perform their choreography under a huge mirror makes the result of the show “very interesting”.

Among the 32 dancers in the show is Anna Gispert, a girl from Girona who is very excited to be able to present this piece in your city. “I’m very happy to be able to perform in Girona, to be able to bring the project to the city and for the people around me to come and see it, because in the end I’ve been explaining where I’m going for many years,” she says. For Gispert, the experience of participating in this European project has meant “live dance in a more creative way”. “It’s very nice to be able to understand what the entire process of creating a piece is like, starting from the choreography, scenography or setting up the stage, not forgetting the costumes and make-up,” he explains.

On the other hand, David Maestre from Barcelona, considers that the fact of being able to act in different countries is “very special”. “Accustomed to the public here, you can see other types of spectators. We once went to Vilnius, Lithuania, and the people seemed very serious at first. However, everyone ended up crying. Acting in Catalonia means extra motivation and excitement for us” points out the young dancer, who highlights “the trust” that has been generated between the members of the company. “Apart from all the choreographies, we do team building, which is the creation of this trust between all of us and at the end after the rehearsals we have this confidence to talk, explain and get excited together. And it’s a very beautiful thing,” he says.

The mirror effect

Dancing under a large mirror becomes a way of seeing that each dancer contributes his grain of sand. “For dancers, comparison is inevitable and having this big mirror makes you see that you are part of something much bigger. You may not be doing the stunts that other colleagues are doing, but you are definitely bringing something to the show. In the end, you’re on stage to share and not to sympathize» says Maestre. “We are used to working with a mirror, because we often have one in dance classes. But in this case the mirror is focusing on the audience and that is why it is very special. In a way, it’s not just us,” points out Gispert.

Face T(w)o supposes the culmination of almost three years of work, in which the project has created 13 productions that have been performed in public spaces, one of which in 2021 in Temporada Alta, where it was presented Mirrors of the human nature in the Cathedral of Girona. The show that is now coming to Girona, like the other proposals of the People Power Partnership project, focuses on social issues and encourages the dancers to become authors to contribute vital and personal experiences linked to society, coexistence or ‘ecology On this occasion they use the general theme of mirrors to combine visually and dramaturgically the concept of diversity and the difference of the individual parts.
