In this regard, several cooperatives from the province of Tetouan and elsewhere presented their various local and regional products in the stands set up at Souk Chamali, in the presence of the various local partners of the INDH.
Among the products on display are food and cosmetic products, aromatic and medicinal plants, as well as traditional clothes hand-woven by cooperative artisans, as part of projects that have come to fruition, thanks to the support and support for the Initiative.
This socio-economic event aims to celebrate local and national cooperatives and to highlight their role and contribution to the promotion of the social and solidarity economy and economic inclusion, particularly for the benefit of young people and women, as well as to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of the opening of Souk Chamali, which constitutes a marketing platform dedicated to cooperatives in the province of Tetouan.
In a statement to MAP, the head of the Social Action Division of the province of Tetouan, Brirhet Mohssine, stressed that the Provincial Human Development Committee (CPDH) of the province of Tetouan commemorates the International Day of Cooperatives, through a series of activities, including the organization of this show which highlights the products of partner agricultural and industrial cooperatives.
Mr. Brirhet indicated that this event also aims to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of the opening of Souk Chamali, which represents an important platform made available to cooperatives to present and market their products in an attractive and welcoming space.
He also indicated that around 30 cooperatives were supported by the INDH as part of its 3rd phase, in particular its axis relating to the social and solidarity economy, with a budget envelope of 14.6 million dirhams (MDH), including the “Souk Chamali” complex, which has given strong momentum to the cooperative sector in the province and has become a model on a national scale.
The manager affirmed that most of the exhibitors at the show are cooperatives of rural women from different regions of the Kingdom.
According to the organizers, the Souk Chamali, inaugurated in June 2022, is one of the projects supported by the INDH in its third phase, aimed in particular at improving income and the economic inclusion of young people, noting that the number of partner cooperatives in this project went from 28 in 2022 to 63 currently.
The number of products offered on the market increased from 320 to 1,575 between 2022 and 2024, while turnover increased from more than 4 million dirhams to more than 6 million dirhams, an increase of more than 30%, which reflects the development and success of the market in achieving its main objectives, notably improving the income and standard of living of beneficiaries of the cooperative sector at the level of the province.
In addition, the beneficiaries welcomed the organization of this fair and the constant support of the INDH, stressing that the Initiative helped them develop their activities and improve their social situation.
This ceremony was also an opportunity to highlight the social and environmental role of cooperatives, particularly in terms of strengthening the economic empowerment of local communities, creating sustainable employment opportunities and developing resources.
