Jürgen Klopp will commit himself to the Red Bull brewery company from next year. Now it is known that he could apparently have returned to BVB.
The football world was astonished when successful coach Jürgen Klopp announced his involvement with the beverage company Red Bull a few days ago. The former Dortmund and Liverpool champion coach has signed on as Head of Global Soccer for the Austrian shower manufacturer for five years.
According to a media report, Klopp would have had the opportunity to return to his heart club, Borussia Dortmund. The club for which Klopp practically tailored the motto “Real Love”. The Klopp era in the Ruhr region lasted from 2008 to 2015.
According to “Sport Bild”, BVB really wanted to bring Klopp to Borsigplatz for a second time. BVB boss Hans-Joachim Watzke had already felt more than two years ago whether Klopp could imagine a return. At that time the coach was still coaching the English first division club Liverpool FC. Watzke, “Sport Bild” claims to have learned, is said to have even offered the now 57-year-old coach that he could choose a job at BVB – or create a position himself. So maximum freedom of movement.
As a footballer, you couldn’t really ask for more accommodation. Nevertheless, Klopp decided otherwise. Namely for Red Bull. And two and a half years ago, in the negotiations with Watzke, Klopp is said to have rejected this on the grounds that he no longer wanted to work for a single club. Did he already know about the Red Bull offer?
Both parties deny this. But if it is true that Klopp rejected BVB for this reason, it should at least raise eyebrows among the master coach’s critics. And there have been quite a few of them since his Red Bull commitment was announced. They resent him for deciding against a traditional club like BVB and in favor of the Red Bull project that was planned on the drawing board.
