St. John’s: Cricket West Indies and the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) have introduced the format ‘THE 6IXTY’ in the game of cricket. This format is expected to bring a new leap in the game of cricket.

The first Test match in cricket is said to have been played in 1877. About 145 years after the tournament, the format ‘THE 6IXTY’ has been introduced. Test cricket will one day be commercialized as T20, T10. Now it has taken another form.

The first edition of the THE 6IXTY format will be launched in August. It has been reported that the best cricketers from all over the world will take part in it.

Matches will be played in the men’s and women’s divisions. It has been reported that this will be the way to transform T10 cricket through new ventures. Cricket is said to be a joint venture between the West Indies and the Caribbean Premier League.

New rules for this format

  • Batting teams will be given a maximum of six wickets. If the sixth wicket falls, it will be taken as an all out.
  • Each batting team does not have 2 powerplay overs. Teams batting in the third powerplay can be unlocked if they hit 2 sixes in a row in the first 12 balls. It has been reported that it can be used within 3 to 9 overs.
  • In the first half 30 balls will be bowled from the same end. Another end will be used for the next 30 balls.
  • It has been reported that a maximum of one bowler can bowl only 2 overs in an innings. Throws 30 balls in 5 overs.
  • If a team fails to bowl 60 balls within the allotted time, a fielder will be dismissed for the last 6 balls. Plus fans can pick a specific time of the game as a Mystery Free hit. It has been reported that the batsmen will not be out at that time.
