The actor Fritz von Friedl died in Vienna at the age of 83 after a long illness. His professional colleague Chris Lohner announced this on Thursday evening. Von Friedl performed in the Burgtheater and the Theater in der Josefstadt, among others, and appeared in many television productions.

Fritz von Friedl was born on April 17, 1941 in Berlin as the son of Austrian cameraman Fritz Friedl. Later he studied acting at the Max Reinhart Seminar in Vienna. He got his first experience as an actor when he was a teenager.

This was followed by engagements in Germany and Austria. In Vienna he appeared not only at the Josefstadt but also at the Ensemble Theater and in the 1980s in George Tabori’s “Theater Der Kreis” at the Wiener Schauspielhaus. From 1972 to 1978 he was also a permanent member of the ensemble at the Burgtheater.

In addition, von Friedl, whose sister Loni von Friedl, who is two years younger, is also an actress, has appeared in front of the camera for several television productions – including successful domestic series such as “Kaisermühlen Blues” , “Schlosshotel Orth” and “Julia – An Extraordinary Woman”.

He also worked for ORF as a speaker for television documentaries, among other things. Fritz von Friedl was also involved with the Austrian Film Actors Association. Chris Lohner last appeared on stage with him in “The Cage” at the Vienna City Theater Walfischgasse in 2008. The two had been friends for many years.
