The Attorney General’s Office issued an urgent alert in response to the recent episodes of violence recorded in the departments of Cauca and Valle del Cauca.
In the last few hours, eight events of public order disturbance have been reported, including seven harassments in several municipalities of Cauca and an attack with explosives in Jamundí, Valle del Cauca.
The wave of violence includes harassment in Corinto (two events), Suárez, Miranda, Toribío, Jambaló and Argelia, where combats also occurred between the armed forces and the FARC Dissidents. During these military operations, the activation of antipersonnel mines injured two soldiers. On the other hand, in Jamundí, Valle del Cauca, an attack with explosives, which occurred near the Police station, left a uniformed officer injured and caused serious material damage.

The Attorney General’s Office repudiated the serious violations of International Humanitarian Law committed by the FARC Dissidents, denouncing practices such as the use of children and adolescents in hostilities, the installation of antipersonnel mines in civilian homes, and the use of drones with explosives. , which left 17 civilians injured. In addition, the control body expressed its concern about the increase in insecurity in the region, especially with the proximity of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP16), which will be held in Cali in the coming days.
In its statement, the Attorney General’s Office demanded that the Ministry of Defense redouble its military intelligence, patrol and territorial control efforts to guarantee the security of the affected communities and the upcoming international event. The control entity stressed the importance of restoring peace and security in the region, protecting the human rights of the most vulnerable populations.
