The Attorney General’s Office has initiated a disciplinary investigation against the councilor of Santiago de Cali, Andrés Escobar González, for alleged irregular acts during his visit to the Pichincha Military Canton on January 28, 2024.

According to the Regional Instruction of the Valley, The councilor recorded videos during his visit in which he supposedly appears to be giving orders to the uniformed personnel of the military institution. These videos were later published on their social networks, which could constitute a disciplinary offense.

In addition, the Public Ministry stated that on February 5, the commander of the Military Police Battalion No. 3, Lieutenant Colonel Edwin Camilo Castaño Perico, warned the councilor that, despite having provided him with technical means to record videos related to the provision of military service , he was not allowed to appear in them.

“The officer highlighted that “without consent from any echelon of command he deliberately and ill-intentionally decided to record (Escobar González) and publish on social networks,” to which was added the fact of including images for which he did not obtain consent. that he was obliged by the soldiers who appear there, of which the Command was not aware,” highlighted the Attorney General’s Office.

With this procedural stage and the request for evidence carried out, the Attorney General’s Office seeks to verify the reported facts, determine if they constitute a disciplinary offense and define if the person involved acted under any cause of exclusion of responsibility.

Escobar is remembered for shooting at the civilian population during the so-called social outbreak in Cali.
