Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani stressed the importance of the Enduring Baghdad Forests Project in providing a recreational haven and green spaces for the Iraqi family.
The Prime Minister’s media office stated in a statement received by the (INA), that “Prime Minister muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani, today, Saturday, launched the executive work for the Baghdad Sustainable Forests Project, which will be implemented on the land of (the former al-Rashid camp), with an area exceeding 12 million square meters. ”.
Al-Sudani stated, in his speech during the work launch ceremony, according to the statement, that “the project is the first project of its kind to be implemented in Iraq, in terms of type, area, and activities, and it will also be the first in the region,” stressing “the partnership with the technically capable private sector.” And financially in its implementation.”
The Prime Minister stressed that “housing has a priority in the government’s approach, but not at the expense of investing spaces inside Baghdad, but rather by creating new residential cities that include a large percentage of green spaces, as Ali Al-Wardi City and Al-Jawahiri Residential city will be built on the outskirts of Baghdad,” noting. until “the government’s work method, with scientific plans, adopts reconstruction and progress projects in Baghdad and all the governorates.”
Al-Sudani said, according to the statement, that “environmental challenges and pollution are a problem facing Iraq and the world, in light of the increase in desertification, the disappearance of vegetation from many lands, and the decline in river levels,” stressing that “there is an unjust use of green lands by converting them into residential and other projects, in addition to pollution in all governorates.” And in the south because of gas burning, which is a challenge that the government is working to stop.”
He pointed out that ”the environmental file is one of the most prominent priorities in the government program, and we worked on it on several axes, activities and events,” adding: “We launched strategic projects to reduce emissions, at the level of treatment and water purification plants, to preserve river water.”
He continued,”We stipulated in all investment permits for residential complexes and cities that there be large areas allocated as green areas and vegetation,” pointing out that “the (Al-Rashid Camp) project is of interest to real estate developers,and more than one investment permit for residential cities has previously been referred to this site.”
He stated, “After assuming government duties, we studied the redistribution of activities, especially in baghdad, which lacks green lands,” stressing that “Al-Rashid Camp has administrative problems, and the decision was issued to convert the entire area of 5,000 dunums into a recreational forest and green spaces.”
He continued: ”We have begun implementing and completing the procedures, and approvals have been prepared from all ministries, and violations have been removed, with alternative solutions,” noting that “this project has great importance from an environmental standpoint for the capital, and provides a refuge for Iraqi families in Baghdad.”
He explained, “We were keen to provide the necessary means for these projects, within a plan that addresses environmental distortions in Baghdad and the governorates.”
it is noteworthy that the Baghdad Sustainable Forests Project is the largest urban forest in the country,and will be a prominent tourist,entertainment and cultural destination,in addition to its vital environmental role,as it includes giant forests containing about a million long-lived trees divided into 28 forests with diverse activities,in addition to its economic feasibility as it will provide 80 thousand diverse job opportunities.
