‘The Bible looks good… ‘ Published by Jo Hye-ryeon, a broadcaster

Obtain supervision from experts to prevent errors
“I wish I could serve as a windbreaker for introduction to the Bible.”
“As an adult, when I first read the Bible, it was so difficult that I had to close the page several times. “I wrote it to help people who are reading the Bible for the first time understand it easily and find it interesting.”
Broadcaster Cho Hye-ryun, whom I met at a cafe in Daehak-ro, Seoul on the 9th, explained the reason for recently publishing ‘Cho Hye-ryun’s Visible Bible Stories’ (OJ Enterscom, photo). The New and Old Testament stories that he organized in a way that elementary school students can understand are included in the book along with over 1,300 pictures drawn by author Lee Jeong-jun. Difficult words such as ‘redemption’ were interpreted as ‘freedom by paying a price, such as money.’ The sentences were also organized to be as easy to understand as possible without deviating from the original meaning of the Bible. Here, the ‘ephod’, a sleeveless vest worn over the linen outer garment worn by priests, the ‘laver’ used by priests to wash their hands and feet, and the ‘altar of burnt offering’, an altar for burning sacrifices, were introduced along with pictures.
It is said that the most difficult part was preventing errors in the content. Mr. Cho said, “As I was trying to explain the Bible verses using pictures, I had no choice but to compress the content. In the process, there should not be any parts that conflict with the meaning of the Bible, so I removed parts that were controversial in interpretation and received supervision from experts.” He said. The review was done by Professor Kim Byeong-guk and Pastor Lee Hae-won of the Department of Theology at Baekseok University.
As a comedian, he added his own wit without being excessive so that beginners can enjoy reading. When explaining the twin brothers Esau and Jacob in Genesis, Esau’s MBTI is described as ‘E’ and Jacob’s MBTI is described as having a severe ‘I’. He completed the doctoral program in historical theology at Pyeongtaek University’s Pierson Theological Graduate School last year and is said to have written a book for 7 months, 3 hours a day.
Mr. Cho hoped that his book would “serve as a wind catcher to help people get into the Bible.” Because the background of the Bible is the history of the Israelites, in order to properly understand it, it is difficult to continuously read related books or commentaries that explain the culture, terminology, and situation of the time. For this reason, even if you go to church for a long time, there are surprisingly few people who only know Bible verses and understand the historical context.
“Just as unglazed meat is easier to eat, wouldn’t it be possible to become more interested in the Bible and understand it better if you first read a book that explains the basic contents of the Bible in an easy and fun way?”
Mr. Cho said, “Even if you are not a Christian, reading the Bible is a book that will be of great help to your life. I thought it would be good for more people to have access to the Bible, so I decided not to own the copyright so that anyone can use and utilize the book.”
