The bodies of two persons who went missing after being swept away in the Ramboda Falls in Nuwara Eliya-Kotmale while on a trip from Vavuniya to Nuwara Eliya were recovered this afternoon (14.04.2022), Kotmale Police said.

The body of a young woman was recovered yesterday from the three who went missing after being swept away in Rampodai Falls.

The search for the bodies of the two has been suspended due to heavy rains and floods in the falls yesterday.

The bodies of the young woman and the young man were recovered in the afternoon during the search operation which started in the morning for the third day today (14.04.2022).

The rescued persons are identified as Bhuvaneswaran Vinodani (age 18) of Nedunkeny, Vavuniya and Vidusan (age 21) of Vavuniya.

Their bodies were found during a joint search by the navy, army, police and locals.

Kotmale police said that their bodies were recovered from the water tank that supplies water to the Kotmale reservoir for power generation.

The bodies will be taken to the Gampola Base Hospital for autopsy after the autopsy, where the bodies will be handed over to relatives, police said.

A young man and 48 women working in a garment factory in Vavuniya district traveled to Nuwara Eliya on 12.04.2022 in a bus on the eve of the New Year.

On the way, the bus stopped near the Irampodai waterfall in the Nuwara Eliya district and the youths split into groups to visit the falls and the surrounding natural areas.

In this condition they have been recovered as corpses. The victims were identified as Bhuvaneswaran Vinodani (18) of Nedunkeny, Vavuniya, Ponnuthurai Madusalini (21) of Kalmadu – Eeswaripuram, Vavuniya and Vidusan (21) of Vavuniya.
