ThatA 20 year old Rajasthani boy was kicked by a 20-year-old boy with a sense of intolerance and arrogance. Even as we grieve that a man could set his foot upon the poor in the streets, there is something in this matter which gives us hope. The long line of good people goes from the locals who interrogated the boy the moment he kicked him, the doctors who examined him, the IRPCs who brought food to him and his family every day. There is a person who took this matter so seriously and took the baby to the hospital and stayed with them until one o’clock in the night, treating them with money from his own pocket. CPM Thalassery Town Local Committee Member, DYFI Block Committee Member, Kannur University Former Chairman and Advocate M.K. Hassan. The efforts made by Hassan and his friends as public servants in obtaining support and justice for that child and his family so far cannot be overestimated.

Hassan tells Mathrubhumi.com about the incident

‘I came to the medical shop at Manavatti Junction near the new bus stand on Thursday night at eight o’clock. A mother from a different country is seen crying with her son on her lap when she comes to buy medicine. The reason came to know when the locals asked what the problem was. By that time some of the locals called the police and came. After seeing the child, the police decided to check the CCTV. Meanwhile, the CCTV of the private tuition center was obtained. An auto driver was called and the boy and his family were sent to Thalassery General Hospital along with two local youths. Later I also went to the hospital. They searched the hospital to see if a local boy and his mother had come, but found no one. The information received from the nurses was that they had taken the OP ticket and are not seeing it now. Again went to the new stand. Since he did not know the language, friends who knew Hindi were also called as translators. He understood things. Later, the child’s mother told the matter through translators who were friends that she ran away from the hospital because she was afraid that the person who kicked her would come back and beat her. When I convinced them not to be afraid that I am a lawyer, they were relieved that there was someone inside. Since then they call me Vakil Saab. When he showed up at the Thalassery General Hospital, the boy was referred to Pariyaram Medical College for a scan and check for internal bleeding. It was thought that there should be no financial burden on the child and the family. We took our own money and got X-ray scanning done at Thalassery Cooperative Hospital. By the time the scanning was over, it was one o’clock. From there, the child and family members were brought back to the general hospital in a friend’s car. Said to get admitted there‘, Hassan explained the incident that happened that day.

At 2 o’clock in the night Po, Hassan and his friends went to the police station to inquire about the situation. Not only that, it was Hassan and his team who tried to organize CCTV. After examining the CCTV footage, the police summoned the accused to the station. The police sent the accused home saying that he should appear at the station again tomorrow.

The police usually tell some to go and appear in the morning with the assurance that they will appear again. But Hassan says that because the accused behaved so cruelly in this case and it is a serious case, there was no reason to allow it.

The boy and his family are still receiving treatment at the hospital. As part of the palliative care initiated by P Jayarajan, arrangements have been made to deliver food to the boy and his family at the hospital every day.

Hassan told Mathrubhumi after explaining the whole incident, “People like you go through such incidents on a daily basis, and only because of the CCTV footage, this incident has gained news importance”.
