The Plovdiv Court of Appeal ruled that the case against Bulgarian composer Alexander Radev accused of murdering her husband Andreas Ropell will proceed behind closed doors and at the second instance. In the hallway of the courthouse, he again hid his face with a mask.

Radev is appealing his 15-year prison sentence for the murder of his husband, Andreas Ropell. The two were married in Germany, lived in Sofia for a while, but on May 3, 2022, they decided to move into a property owned by a Bulgarian in Stamboliyski.

The next day they went to the market, and after returning to the house sat down to drink. They quarreled, Radev took a knife and stabbed his husband. He realized what he had done and called 112 to seek help. He accompanied Ropell to the hospital, but despite the doctors’ efforts, he died of his injuries.

After his arrest, Alexander Radev claimed he loved Andreas, but he was a domestic abuser. The case in the District Court took place behind closed doors in order not to disclose details of the intimate life of the two.
