For the first time, Jurečka apologized for not ending the party earlier in a statement for Blesk. Yesterday, he did so in Otázky Václav Moravec in ČT and added that the communication on his part – when he first remained silent on the matter and then his statement only raised further doubts – was faulty.

“For this whole process of mine, on the one hand, not finishing the event on time and for the poorly evaluated communication in real time, I apologize, believe me, I am very sorry, very angry,” the vice-prime minister scolded.

Is Jureček’s apology for the party after the shooting at FF UK enough?

An hour and half

Jurečka also explained how it was with his briefing before 7 p.m. Only then, according to his previous statement, did he learn more about the shooting. The mass murderer launched it at three in the afternoon and soon practically the whole country knew about it, including the fact that it claimed many lives.

“The Christmas meeting was planned for a long time and started after 3 p.m. Information from the Office of the Government was received by SMS at 17:03. Unfortunately, I read the SMS at 6:26 p.m., responded to it at 6:26 p.m., and made a public statement at 6:36 p.m.Jurečka explained, saying that it was a mistake that he did not end the meeting at this moment, and that he did not have full access to information in real time.

And he admitted that the shooting at the merenda was solved, among other things, thanks to people who arrived later. “I think that the meeting, definitely in the second part, when the information about it gradually came out, it was reflected in the debates between us,” added the Deputy Prime Minister.

About 30 people

The deputy prime minister said that the party, including music and refreshments, ended with his leaving the government. And he confirmed the testimony brought by MF Dnes that he returned to the ministry after the government.

“It was about half past eleven…I would have been going back there anyway. I reached the office, I did the necessary things. And I went further down to the atrium, where about 30 people remained, more like a circle of close associates with whom we stayed there. I stayed there with them.” said Jurečka.

The website Extra.cz brought a video, which is supposed to capture the merriment at the ministry at midnight. According to the witness, music was also playing. The Deputy Prime Minister said yesterday that when he returned to the resort, people played music from their cell phones or through a portable speaker.

He will wait for the committee

Jurečka then admitted that thoughts of resigning were running through his mind. “Yesterday (Saturday – editor’s note), when I talked about it with the prime minister, I said that I was ready to consider offering my resignation if he evaluated it this way. I will discuss the same at the meeting of the national committee,” said Jurečka. But he himself will not actively propose that the parties vote on his departure. “I will not actively propose a resolution that should lead to a vote on my recall,” introduced Jurečka to the extraordinary meeting of the wider party leadership on Tuesday. He assumes that even before the committee the leaders of the coalition parties will discuss the situation at the so-called K5 meeting. Jurečka said that some members of the cabinet wrote to him. “I don’t see it as any of the coalition partners suggesting that they want me to resign,” said the head of the Department of Labor.

Jelínková, deputy chairperson of the People’s Party, believes that Jurečka manages the Department of Labor well. “This is an important point in that we will support him. I will personally support him,” said Jelínková, who is Jureček’s political deputy at the ministry.

He also talked to those around him about quitting. “That opinion was not here. But I’m considering it, I don’t care, I understand that I didn’t make the right decision, that I was wrong,” he added.

Fiala doesn’t want the head

Prime Minister Petr Fiala (59, ODS) also commented on the matter yesterday. In Party on CNN Prima News, he said that Jurečka explained the matter to him and that now it is up to him to explain it to the people as well.

“He has to regain the lost trust. It’s good that he apologized,” said the prime minister. According to him, everyone had to come to terms with the situation somehow at a given moment and evaluate it.

“Someone just didn’t evaluate it well, this is a mistake and it’s pointless to walk around a hot mess. A maximum apology is in order, there was not enough empathy shown. And Deputy Prime Minister Jurečka is aware of this,” Fiala commented on the matter. However, he is not going to recall his coalition partner.

“If I had the feeling that he should not be the deputy prime minister in the government, I would have taken the necessary steps,” added the prime minister. He also spoke yesterday about the fact that no changes are planned in his government cabinet.

A number of questions arise regarding the work of the police before the shooting at the faculty and during the intervention. Interior Minister Vít Rakušan (45, STAN) also has some and expects to receive answers to them.

“Some of the speculation is based on rumours, which have been clearly refuted by the police. But there are questions that I or the police chief also generated. And we put them in official places… I expect that they will try to answer the vast majority of those questions,” said the Right. And he said he had instructed police to refute the speculation as clearly as possible this week. She has a big press release planned for tomorrow.
