Chinese President Xi Jinping met on Wednesday in Beijing with the heads of American companies, as China seeks to attract foreign investors and reassure them about its slowing economy.
The official CCTV network said, “President Xi Jinping met this morning at the People’s Palace in Beijing… with representatives of the American business sector.”
The network did not specify the names of the figures who participated in this meeting.
This meeting comes the day after the conclusion of a major economic forum in Beijing attended by a number of senior foreign business leaders, including Apple CEO Tim Cook.
China, facing an economic slowdown and geopolitical tensions, seeks to reassure foreign investors about the country’s growth prospects.
In recent months, the concerns of the business community have increased after the Chinese authorities conducted inspections and interrogations targeting American consulting companies. These measures came in the context of intense competition between Beijing and Washington.
