The automobile sector in Spain (manufacturing, sale and repair of vehicles) lost 23,700 jobs in the second quarter of the year compared to the figures for the same quarter of the previous year, according to data from the latest Active Population Survey (EPA ).

In the second quarter of the year, the national automotive industry employed 550,400 people, which represents a decrease of 4.1% and 23,700 workers in comparison with the 574,100 jobs recorded in the same months of 2021.

In the quarter-on-quarter comparison, the decrease in sectoral jobs was less, with a decrease of 1.09% or 5,200 people, going from 555,600 people in the first quarter to 550,400 workers between April and June.

Industry sources consulted by Europa Press justified this lower volume of employment in the second quarter by the negative impact of factors such as the war in Ukraine, microchip supply cuts or inflation, which do not seem to affect the builders’ income statement .

The vehicle manufacturing industry in Spain closed the second quarter of the year with 214,200 people on the workforce, which represents a decrease of 11.8% in the year-on-year comparison (243,100 jobs in 2021). This means 28,900 fewer workers.

On its side, the vehicle sales and repair sector reached an employment level of 336,200 people between April and June, a growth of 1.5% compared to the 331,000 people with which it closed the second quarter of last year.
