Apple is expected to unveil its new iPhones next fall. According to a report, there will even be a completely new model.
The current year could be an exciting one for iPhone fans: As reported last year, the company is set to launch a new iPhone SE in the spring – without the distinctive fingerprint sensor. As has now been announced, a completely new model in the iPhone series will also be released this year: the iPhone 17 Air.
This is reported by the well-known “Bloomberg” reporter and Apple expert Mark Gurman. Accordingly, the iPhone Air will be the manufacturer’s thinnest smartphone to date. The group hopes that it will achieve more sales with the model than with the previous smaller iPhone models. The last mini version of an Apple smartphone was the iPhone 13, which was introduced and released four years ago.
The iPhone 17 Air is said to be thinner than previous models. According to information from another Apple analyst, the device will be less than six millimeters thick. For comparison: To date, the iPhone 6 was the thinnest Apple smartphone at 6.9 millimeters.
Buyers of the device do not have to compromise on technology. The company’s new A19 chip is said to be installed inside. In addition, the iPhone 17 Air is said to have a 6.6-inch display with a current refresh rate of 120 Hertz. The device should also have 8 GB of RAM.
According to Gurman, the iPhone Air serves as a testing ground for future technologies such as foldable devices. Other manufacturers such as Samsung already have this – Apple has so far held back. In order to make the devices foldable, they would have to have relatively thin housings and displays. The iPhone 17 Air would be a step in this direction.
In addition to the iPhone Air, new iPads and the iPhone SE 4 are also expected to be released this year. According to Gurman, Apple could introduce these two devices in January – parallel to the release of the new iOS 18.3 operating system. However, a date in April is more likely, when iOS 18.4 will be presented on a regular basis.
