The modified 100-ruble note will be issued in 2022. However, a significant amount of it will only come into circulation at the end of the year, said Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank Mikhail Alekseev.
“It will take us a decent amount of time – several months – for credit institutions to set up their counting and sorting machines, self-service devices, to put it simply, ATMs, for this new banknote. Therefore, we will have them in stock, but we will first distribute them to credit institutions for testing this equipment, ”Mr. Alekseev explained to Izvestia.
The Central Bank expects that in 2023–2025 there will be a saturation of the turnover with new banknotes, in 2026–2029 their share will become significant. The existing and modernized banknotes will circulate in parallel.
In the spring, the Central Bank announced that it was modernizing banknotes in denominations of 10, 50, 100, 500, 1000 and 5000 rubles. On their front side there will be images of objects located in the capitals of federal districts, and on the back side – attractions from these districts. The front side of the hundred-ruble bill will depict the sights of Moscow: Red Square, Zaryadye, Shukhov Tower and the main building of Moscow State University.
