The Nueva Alameda project, which includes the elimination of the roundabout, consists of four stages and works would begin in June of this year.
The remodeling of the Plaza Italia, where the traditional roundabout will be eliminated, is expected to begin in June this year. This, within the framework of the Nueva Alameda project, which will entail an investment of more than 13 billion pesos.
In detail, the works will cost $13.438.312.611 and are estimated 300 days for the execution of the work, according to La Tercera instructions.
The project includes the elimination of the Plaza Italia roundabout and the connection of the Forestal, Balmaceda and Bustamante parks.
The phases of the remodeling of Plaza Italia
- First stage (35 days): work on Merced, Irene Morales streets, northern section of Vicuña Mackenna, to provide continuity to buses to Merced.
- Second stage (120 days): The construction of the new road layout on Providencia Avenue in both directions is contemplated.
- Third stage (60 days): works in the southern section of Vicuña Mackenna.
- Fourth stage (85 days): Reconstruction of the roundabout, Plaza Baquedano and Balmaceda Park.
In addition to this, within the project the installation of 30 lighting postsmore of 100 types of trees10 garbage dumps, 78 seats, more than 1,200 bushessurveillance cameras and new traffic lights.
He Ministry of Public Works (MOP) will take care of the knot work Baquedano and Little Birdswhile the Regional Government of Santiago, together with the Ministry of Housing, will be in charge of the construction of cycle paths and recovery of facades along the entire axis of the Nueva Alameda project.
