Malappuram വകുപ്പ് The Public Works Department is unable to evacuate even the encroachment of major cities on the Pulamantol-Melatoor road in Malappuram district, which is under construction with a fund of `144 crore. Construction is progressing without even the width of the panchayat road as encroachments are not avoided. The Perinthalmanna municipality has also come to the scene with a warning that the construction cannot be done as the contractor thinks.

The state highway on Nilambur Road in Perinthalmanna town is 5 meters wide between the two most important hospitals in the district. If the officials are interested, they can clear the encroachment and acquire 10 meters of land and build a road here.

According to the RTI document issued by the Public Works Department, 16 encroachments have been detected in this area alone. The contractor is in a hurry to complete the construction on the existing width as he does not want to evacuate even half the encroachments. Hundreds of encroachments are evident in the 30 km stretch from Pulamantol to Melattur but construction is progressing everywhere without evacuation.
