The European Parliament supported the creation of a Ukrainian fund in the amount of 50 billion euros for the period 2024-2027. Its funds will be used to support Ukraine and carry out reforms for the country’s future accession to the European Union, Day.Az reports with reference to Interfax.

The corresponding resolution was adopted on Tuesday in Strasbourg as part of a plenary meeting of the European Parliament. 536 deputies voted “for” the resolution, 40 “against”, 39 abstained. A total of 615 deputies took part in the voting.

“The Fund should closely link recovery, reconstruction and modernization to the requirements and process of accession to the union, linking financial support to reforms and investments for accession (to the EU),” the document says.

The authors of the document were representatives of the Foreign Affairs Committee Michael Galer (Germany) and the Budget Committee Eider Gardiazabal Rubial (Spain).

The resolution notes that EU support should have three directions. The first is financial support for Ukraine to implement reforms and investments, as well as to maintain the country’s macro-financial stability. The second is mobilizing investment and expanding Ukraine’s access to financing. Third, assistance on the path to European integration.

The resolution provides for the development by the government of the country of a Plan for Ukraine. This plan, as noted in the document, will represent “a coherent, comprehensive and adequately balanced response to the recovery and modernization of Ukraine, supporting its economic, social and environmental recovery, sustainable development and its progress towards accession to the union,” according to goals and requirements of the Ukrainian fund of 50 billion euros.

The Ukraine Plan, in particular, is expected to provide a framework for other donors to identify priority areas for financing the country’s reconstruction.

The activities of the Ukrainian Fund must be assessed annually by the European Commission.
