The Studio Museo Felice Casorati di Pavarolo opens the autumn exhibition season with the exhibition ‘De rerum natura’, which presents the works of three international artists: Antonietta Raphael (Kaunas, 1895 – Rome, 1975), Kiki Smith (Nuremberg, 1954), Cindy Sherman (Glen Ridge, 1954), which opens on Saturday 1 October from 4 to 8 pm. Starting the following day, the exhibition will be open every Saturday and Sunday from 3 to 6.30 pm until 6 November. The exhibition is organized by the Municipality of Pavarolo and curated by the Casorati Archive thanks to the collaboration with the Giuseppe Iannaccone Collection in Milan. In line with the projects carried out in recent years, the ‘De rerum natura’ exhibition keeps alive the dialogue between present and past, between the memory of the places where Felice Casorati lived and worked and the looks and research of some contemporary artists. The route starts from the home of Felice Casorati in Pavarolo, a small and suggestive town on the outskirts of Turin: in this place the artist stayed during the summer periods with his wife Daphne Maugham and his son Francesco, opening the doors to various artists and intellectuals who fed the energy of the place.
“It is precisely from this spatial decentralization that the idea of the exhibition is born – says Gloria Vergani, co-curator of the Giuseppe Iannaccone Collection – which instead analyzes a more intrinsic, deeper dislocation, which concerns the return and reunion of man with the nature and with the inner world. Inside the Felice Casorati Studio Museum, an itinerary unfolds that tells the story of three female artists, belonging to different eras, who themselves have different stories, but who narrate in the most authentic way everything that unites man to his deep and congenital bond with the earth, roots, nature. Along the entire route of the exhibition, an unexpected itinerary unfolds that leads the viewer to look and observe within himself the call to nature, to truthfulness, to the courage to be authentic, without superstructures, in a place where one does not necessarily need to be anything else. if not yourself, immersed in a space where it is only important to be “.
In the works exhibited the relationship of the human figure with the natural and animal element is investigated in its deepest and most visceral dimensions both from an existential and artistic point of view: in the material and sculptural fusion, in the physical and sentimental proximity or in the vision of a ambiguous and indefinite relationship. The studio of an artist is the place of creation and experimentation par excellence, the environment where the pure and genuine formation of one’s self takes place. For this reason, next to the Studio Museum there is also a ‘satellite space’ which includes the rooms of the garden and the Casorati residence. The Iannaccone Collection, in collaboration with Emporium Projects, presents here two very young contemporary artists: Chiara Di Luca (Milan, 1996) and Aronne Pleuteri (Erba, 2001), who create a connection with the Master and with the favorite places in the conception of his works. This union gives rise to a series of works that investigate the relationship of the two artists with the uncontaminated nature that surrounds Pavarolo and with the domestic and everyday feeling that can be savored in the spaces of Felice Casorati’s historic home.
During the week of art in Turin, on Friday 4 November at 11.30 Casa Casorati will host a talk with the collector Giuseppe Iannaccone in dialogue with the director of the Gam / Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Turin Riccardo Passoni, the director of the Venaria Reale Guido Curto, the curator and art historian, co-founder of a.titolo Francesca Comisso, the art historian and critic Elena Pontiggia. The talk aims to enhance and increase the collaborations between important museums in the area and the Studio Museo Felice Casorati, in particular through the concept of ‘memory’. We will talk about the dynamics and relationships that are always different over the years with artists, galleries, collectors and institutions to dissect a very precious and intriguing “human capital” of stories and anecdotes.
