The Girona International Amateur Theater Festival, Fitagstarts a new stage today, with change in management and the will to open up more to the public. After the departure of Martí Peraferrer, artistic director of the contest for the last eighteen years, the new management team supported by the production company Baowatt de Quart proposes a shake-up at the festival to gain more presence on the street and open it up to all kinds of scenic languages.
The great news of this 23rd edition is l’Envelat, a new headquarters in front of the House of Culture which, according to the organization, will be a “space for training, debate and socialization” around non-professional theatre, with activities such as workshops for all kinds of audiences, talks aimed at companies in the sector, pre-functions, post-functions and Fitag Nits sessions, with variety theatre.
Street theater to begin with
With the motto “El Fitag goes to the streets”, the festival opens at six in the afternoon in front of the Casa de Cultura de Girona with a street show by Tràfec Teatre. The Berguedans kick off the festival with describe them a gestural theater proposal inspired by Jean Genet’s Les Criades.
Until Saturday, the festival will host the performances of fourteen companiesamong which stand out amateus groups from Poland, Romania, Colombia, Russia and Greece, as well as companies from the peninsula, coming from Galicia, Andalusia or Murcia.
Girona’s non-professional scene will be represented on the bill with IncreiXendo (Sant Gregori), Maçateatre (Maçanet de la Selva) and the young Girona company Les Fepipes.
In addition to the La Mercè Cultural Center, the courtyard of the House of Culture, the Magnòlies Courtyard and the Envelat, the festival will extend through the neighborhoods of Pla de Palau and Vista Alegre. It will also reach Sant Gregori, Vidreres, Maçanet de la Selva and, for the first time, Caldes de Malavella.
The acquisition of tickets and the reservation of places for daytime activities can be done from the Fitag website. Although there are already four proposals with the full capacity, from the organization remember that the place reservation secures the place until 10 minutes before the start of the function. From this moment on, the doors are opened to the public without reservation and on a first-come, first-served basis.
