The Permanent Mission of Russia to NATO in Brussels is unlikely to resume work, said Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko, whose words are reported by TASS.

“Everything is developing in such a way that we are unlikely to return. [в Брюссель]”, – he said at the site of the Valdai discussion club.

According to him, this is due to the return of NATO to the policy of “countering the threat from the east”, which is currently the key task of the alliance.

“The most important thing for us, realists, is that this is laid down in the form of military development. Everything that is happening on earth today, I emphasize, is carried out according to the tracing of the Cold War, all these operational plans are very reminiscent of what we have already experienced, ”said the Deputy Foreign Minister.

On October 18, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that from November 1, the Russian Federation would suspend the work of its permanent mission to the military alliance. In addition, Russia is also shutting down the NATO military liaison mission in Moscow and the NATO information bureau, which was established at the Belgian embassy.

These measures were taken in response to NATO’s decision to revoke the accreditation of several employees of the Russian permanent mission to the organization. On October 6, the alliance announced the reduction of the Russian permanent mission from twenty to ten. Eight members of the Russian mission had their accreditation revoked, and two more posts were abolished. The decision was made in response to Russia’s alleged “hostile activity”: the organization believed that the expelled diplomats were undeclared members of Russian intelligence.
