The government has decided to buy 5.5 million liters of soybean oil for the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB). It will cost about 87 crore rupees. The Advisory Council Committee on Government Procurement has given approval to buy this oil.
This is the first approval for purchase of soybean oil for TCB since the interim government took over the administration of the country. Soybean oil will be bought at 157 taka 90 paisa per liter. The Awami League government has bought soybean oil at a price which is now about 7 and a half taka more per litre.
On Sunday (October 20), Finance Advisor Dr. The purchase of soybean oil was approved in the Advisory Council Committee meeting on Government Procurement held under the chairmanship of Salehuddin Ahmed.
According to the sources of the meeting, approval has been given to purchase 55 lakh liters of soybean oil locally through open tender (national) system. The total cost to buy this oil from City Edible Oil Limited will be 86 crore 84 lakh 50 thousand taka. The price of soybean oil per liter has been fixed at 157 taka 90 paisa.
Prior to this, under the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government, the last approval to purchase soybean oil was given on June 29. The Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement held on that day approved the purchase of 22.2 million liters of soybean oil locally through open tender.
The price of soybean oil per liter is estimated at 150 taka 48 paisa. In this, a total expenditure of Tk 331 crore 560 thousand has been approved to buy 2 crore 2 million liters of soybean oil. This soybean oil was also decided to be purchased from City Edible Oil Limited. In other words, compared to the last price at which the Awami League government bought soybean oil, this time it is 7 taka 42 paise more per liter.
Although the cost to buy soybean oil is high, recently the government is buying lentils at a much lower price than the Awami League government. In the Government Procurement Advisory Committee meeting held on October 9, approval was given to buy 10,000 metric tons of lentils through open tender locally. The total cost to buy these lentils is Tk 96 crore 39 lakh. And the price of lentils per kg is 96 taka 39 paisa.
Before this, under the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina, the last lentil was bought at the rate of 102 taka 20 paisa per kg. In other words, compared to the last price at which the Awami League government bought lentils, the interim government’s lentil purchase price has fallen by 5 taka 81 paise per kg.
