Total respect for the Supreme Court and total support for the work of the State Attorney General. This is the Government’s response after the opening of proceedings against Álvaro García Ortiz for the complaint filed by Isabel Díaz Ayuso’s partner for revealing secrets. “I am sure that nothing will be solved,” Justice Minister Félix Bolaños said in press statements to Congress after learning of the ordinance.
The Supreme Prosecutor’s Office rejects the prosecutor general’s accusation for the complaint by Ayuso’s partner
“I have read the ordinance in great detail and I want to once again reiterate my respect for the resolution. An investigation has been launched and we will see what remains. I trust in justice and that no one can get in trouble for having denied a hoax. I trust it is the truth. and justice prevails,” Bolaños repeated to defend the actions of the State Attorney General.
It is the Government’s first reaction following the Supreme Court’s decision to open criminal proceedings against García Ortiz this morning, an unprecedented decision. The investigator of the case will be judge Ángel Hurtado, who will also investigate Pilar Rodríguez, chief prosecutor of the province of Madrid.
The Supreme Court explained that the statement released by the Prosecutor’s Office on the case of Alberto González Amador, Ayuso’s partner, contained information already revealed by the media, but focused on the leak of emails in which his lawyer recognized the two tax crimes and offered to do an agreement. The investigation will then focus on whether the attorney general leaked those emails to the media.
Bolaños reviewed the facts in the brief press appearance he made to Congress to explain the Government’s position. “Two months ago this man [González Amador] He admits having committed two crimes and asks the Treasury for an agreement. Uncertain and false information is produced, where it is said that it is the Prosecutor’s Office itself that is trying to reach an agreement with the confessed criminal. In this statement the State Attorney General denies the false information and tells the objective truth of what was happening”, he summarized. “It can really be a crime to tell the truth, to deny a hoax spread by a criminal, his partner and his political environment?” he asked himself.
When asked specifically about these alleged leaks, the minister repeated his words: “The origin of this lawsuit cannot be forgotten. It is nothing more than a Prosecutor’s Office that comes out to tell the truth, denying inaccurate information. These are the objective and factual circumstances. “The government supports the Office of the Attorney General in this action and in its work.”
Sumar’s second vice president and leader in the government, Yolanda Díaz, made similar statements in the halls of Congress in this regard: “Absolute respect for all state institutions and for the work of the State Attorney General.” “I would like the way of doing politics in this country to change once and for all. The PP must start from the assumption that it will remain in opposition for a long time,” he added.
The PP calls for his resignation: “He cannot continue one more minute”
“A degradation that advances every day and floods everything.” This is how the general secretary of the PP, Cuca Gamarra, defined the political situation after the accusation of García Ortiz, who he asked to resign: “He should not resign just today but this very morning.”
“He cannot stay in office one minute longer,” he said in media statements in Congress. “There is only room for his resignation,” he insisted. Gamarra added Pedro Sánchez to the equation: “They cannot continue to stain the institutions.”
Party leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo also called for both resignations on Twitter: “Let Sánchez and his state attorney general leave now.”
