The head of customs Georgi Dimov met with the general director of SELEC

The director of the “Customs” Agency, Georgi Dimov, met with the general director of the Center for Law Enforcement in South-Eastern Europe (SELEC), Ouz Serkant Akan, the customs announced.

During the talks, the two emphasized the unique role of SELEC in supporting cooperation in countering cross-border crime in the region, as well as the serious activity of the Bulgarian customs administration in the center’s work.

The “Customs” Agency considers data as an extremely important resource, said Georgi Dimov and added that interaction is the most important mechanism for adaptation to the changing international environment.

“SELEC is an organization that has come a long way in the 25 years since its creation and is recognizable as a partner in the field of operational cooperation”, stressed Akan and informed that the network continues to expand with new operational partners. This has benefited the entire region and in the following years, the number of operations would double.

The South East European Law Enforcement Center (SELEC) is an international organization, successor to the Regional Cross-Border Crime Center of the South East European Cooperation Initiative.

SELEC unites the efforts of the police and customs services of the countries of Southeast Europe in the fight against cross-border organized crime, supports operational cooperation by facilitating the exchange of information, coordinates joint investigations and regional operations, and more.
