The decisions of Western countries and Russia regarding Ukraine will not be effective if they are not recognized by the Ukrainians themselves. This was stated in an interview with AFP by the head of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov.
“Whatever the outcome of these negotiations, nothing will come of it if the Ukrainians do not recognize it,” Danilov said.

In mid-December, Russia handed over to the United States a draft security guarantee treaty and an agreement on security measures for Russia and the NATO countries. In them, Moscow proposed not to place military bases of the alliance on the territory of the former USSR and to abandon the expansion of the bloc to the east. Russia also offered to abandon the deployment of weapons where one of the parties might perceive it as a threat.
US State Department spokesman Ned Price, in turn, announced the preparation of a response list of requirements for Russia. White House spokeswoman Jane Psaki said that Washington does not agree with Russia’s demands, but is ready to negotiate.
