The National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, China’s top political advisory body, launched its annual session in Beijing.

The second session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference began in the Great Hall of the People, where more than 2,000 national political advisors gathered.
Party and state leaders, including Xi Jinping, Li Qiang, Zhao Liji, Tsai Qi, Deng Xuexiang, Li Xi and Han Zheng, took their seats on the podium.
The opening meeting witnessed the review and approval of the session’s agenda.
Wang Huning, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, presented the work report of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference to the session.
While reviewing the work of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference last year, Wang highlighted the new achievements made by the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and its Standing Committee, and their contributions to the development of the cause of the Communist Party of China and the country.
He said that the year 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and is considered a pivotal year for achieving the goals and tasks set in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), adding that it also marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.
In 2024, the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) will focus on advancing Chinese-style modernization, actively making suggestions, promoting broad consensus, and pooling the country’s wisdom and strength so as to achieve the economic and social development goals for the whole year, he said.
According to a report on dealing with proposals submitted by political advisors since the previous session, a total of 5,621 proposals have been put forward since the 2023 session, and of the 4,791 proposals that were accepted, 99.9 percent of them were dealt with.
