The House of Representatives issues a statement regarding the appointment of a new UN envoy

First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Fawzi Al-Nuwairi, issued a statement addressed to the Libyan people, regarding the appointment of a new United Nations envoy to the country.

The statement said: “To the sons of our proud Libyan people, there is no hope in the United Nations mission. The solution is in the hands of the Libyans. As we have repeatedly warned, relying on the United Nations mission as a means of resolving our national crisis has proven to be merely a waste of time and a continuation of the suffering of the Libyans. Two months ago we heard talk about a new international plan.” And here we are today in the UN Security Council following up on the appointment of the tenth UN envoy. However, we say it clearly: there is no hope that the United Nations mission will provide a solution to our crisis. “It only contributed to revolving and prolonging the crises.”

The statement added: “The naming of a new envoy is nothing but a new link in the chain of failure that the Libyans have faced over the past years. This sterile approach must end, and the solution can only be purely Libyan, stemming from the will of the people of the country.”

The statement emphasized the following points:

1. Refusing to rely on the United Nations mission as a mediator of the Libyan crisis: The repeated failure of the UN envoys is conclusive evidence that the solution will not come from outside, but rather will be achieved by the will of the Libyans alone.

2. Moving towards a purely national path: We stress the need to focus on holding free and fair elections and building a permanent constitution that returns the decision to the Libyan people, so that they can choose their leaders and rebuild their state on legitimate foundations.

3. Achieving comprehensive national reconciliation: True reconciliation is the only way to restore national unity and block the way to any external interference. Libya’s interests must be above all considerations.

4. Restoring independent national decision-making: Libya’s future can only be built through sincere national efforts that work to restore Libyan sovereignty away from any international agendas or imposed solutions.

The statement concluded by saying: “We call on our people to unite and work to build Libya’s future away from the futility of international interventions that have only provided more complexity to the crisis. Our fate is in our hands and the solution will not come from outside.” “Long live free and proud Libya, and long live the struggle of its people.” .
