The International Monetary Fund (IMF) looks forward to close cooperation with Azerbaijan within the framework of COP29.

A source in the office of the IMF representative told Trend about this on Thursday, Day.Az reports.

“We look forward to working closely with Azerbaijan through COP29 to support global efforts to address the impacts of climate change. We are also working closely with authorities to assess the risks and macroeconomic impacts of climate change on Azerbaijan, develop policies to achieve the country’s climate change mitigation goals and adaptation to them, as well as exploring options for financing the fight against climate change,” the IMF emphasized.

To that end, IMF Chief Kristalina Georgieva met with COP29 President Mukhtar Babaev on the sidelines of the World Government Summit, where they discussed conference priorities and ways the IMF can support global efforts to address the impacts of climate change.

The IMF mentioned that COP28 saw important progress in several key areas, including a historic call for a transition away from fossil fuels in energy systems.

“Now is the time for all stakeholders to step up their actions in response to the global analysis that is prioritizing action in this decade,” the fund added.

Let us recall that the official announcement of the decision to host COP29 in Azerbaijan was made in Dubai on December 11, 2023. Azerbaijan will host the conference in November.
