Don Felipe received this morning at the Palacio de La Zarzuela a representation of the Center for Sociological Research (CIS), on the occasion of its 60th anniversary, headed by its president, the socialist José Félix Tezanos. The meeting with the Monarch was attended by eleven other former presidents of this public body, which I know is dedicated to sociological research and the preparation of public opinion polls in Spain and which today is in the spotlight due to bias from their demoscopic surveys.

In addition to the current president, eleven other former presidents have attended: Rafael Ansón Oliart, Juan Díez Nicolás, Rosa Conde, Joaquín Arango, Pilar del Castillo, Ricardo Montoro, Fernando Vallespín, Ramón Ramos, Félix Requena and Cristobal Torres. All of them have posed outside the Palacio de la Zarzuela and later held an audience with Don Felipe.

The Center for Sociological Research (CIS) is an autonomous body dependent on the Spanish government. It was created in 1963 and since then it has carried out extensive work in the field of sociology and social sciences. The subject of his studies is wide and varied, covering public opinion, national identity, social structure, citizen participation, political culture, among other topics of interest to society. His surveys and studies are considered a very valuable source of information for the analysis of the social and political reality of Spain.

Precisely yesterday, its current president inaugurated an exhibition in which a tour of some of his studies is made, ranging from a specific one on the “Superman” comics to the monographs on Covid that he did during the pandemic. Created under the name of Institute of Public Opinion (IOP) -became the CIS with the advent of democracy- initially it was conceived as an autonomous body, but finally that word was crossed out of the project that reached the Council of Ministers.
