The latest in doping? Transplants of… fecal matter! – International Cycling

The limits of science expand every day and that is why stories emerge that are often incredible. Such is the case of what could be the latest advance in terms of sports improvement, and perhaps doping.

According to GCN, studies have been underway for some time to benefit intestinal health and treat vitamin C deficiencies. This would be through certain types of bacteria that experiments showed as drivers of athletic performance and resistance. In fact, Harvard University and a Connecticut laboratory delved into testing with cyclists.

In previous experiments, they discovered that the bacteria in question strengthen the immune system and the microbiota. The study is very advanced but not in humans, although in mice they have discovered that they increased their resistance and lowered the level of inflammation.

It is still premature to know if it will be a method to improve health or if it can be used to cheat. As is known, those who choose shortcuts in sport are usually ahead of the controls and on more than one occasion use experimental methods and substances.

At least, with the curious news released by such respectable entities, those in charge of hunting down cheaters will not have the excuse of saying that they were not aware.

Additionally, we want to report MARCA HORA, to the site ViewMe, and that another Latin American multimedia, which also steals the material, becomes evident when it publishes on the same day as us news that was actually from previous days and we decided to delay. If the incident is repeated, we will hold a public protest.
