The Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Stephanie Khoury, stressed “the necessity of breaking the political deadlock in Libya and promoting an inclusive political process.”
She noted that “the Libyan people are looking forward to stability, unifying institutions, and holding national elections,” stressing the need to “stay away from unilateral measures that obstruct the political process.”
Khoury confirmed, during an interview with: United Nations News“The importance of unifying the government and the army to ensure the stability of the ceasefire.”
She praised “Libya’s economic capabilities,” noting “the necessity of a common vision between the leadership and the people to achieve a better future.”
The UN official spoke about the challenges facing national reconciliation, which she said “is very important for Libyans,” calling for “a legal framework for transitional justice, with the need to focus on the victims.”
Khoury touched on the issue of local elections, stressing that “it is an important opportunity for the Libyan people to choose their representatives and prepare for the upcoming national elections.”
She praised “the role of Libyan women in political and economic life,” noting “the challenges they face, such as cyber violence.”
In her message to the youth, Khoury called “to continue to cling to hope and participate in the political and economic process,” stressing “their vital role in pressuring political parties to achieve a bright future for Libya.”
