Fleet Admiral Prof. Dr. Kalin Kalinov is the new head of the “Nikola Y. Vaptsarov” Higher School in Varna. He took over the leadership of the university from his long-time head, Fleet Admiral Prof. Boyan Mednikarov, PhD.
The ceremony, which was also attended by the mayor of the city, Blagomir Kotsev, began with the handover of the battle flag to the Military Military Academy.
I promise to keep it clean and unblemished, the new head of the school told the line.
He accepted from his predecessor the sword – a symbol of power with a vow to use it wisely and with the promise never to take it out without an occasion and to put it away with honor. Brigadier Admiral Kalinov also accepted the chief’s personal flag. During the handover and acceptance ceremony, he pledged to respect the principles of continuity and continue to combine modern approaches in the education of students and cadets with the strong traditions that the Maritime School has.
The new head of the school has a rich biography. He was commissioned as a cadet at the same base in 1986 and in 1991 received a master’s degree in the management of tactical formations in the Navy. He was the commander of a navigation combat unit and a mine-torpedo combat unit of a submarine, and subsequently a submarine commander. Before taking the high position, Kalinov was the deputy head of the educational and scientific part of the State Medical University.
The ceremony continued with a ritual of sending off Fleet Admiral Prof. D.V. Boyan Mednikarov in reserve.
He has been the head of the school for more than 13 years, and a total of 30 years of his professional experience have been dedicated to military education and Military Military Academy.
He participated in the 31st and 32nd Bulgarian Antarctic Expeditions, and under his leadership at the beginning of 2023, for the first time in Bulgarian naval history, the first Bulgarian military scientific research ship “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” passes through the Drake Strait, sails in the Southern Ocean and reaches Livingstone Island.
