The bill on the introduction of compulsory vaccination against coronavirus in Austria provides for a penalty for refusal of vaccination in the amount of up to 7,200 euros, Die Presse newspaper reports, citing a document being developed by the government.

As it became known to the publication, the bill provides for the expansion of vaccination against coronavirus to everyone living in Austria from February 2022. Exceptions will be made for people at risk to life and health due to vaccination, pregnant women and adolescents under 12 years of age.

It is assumed that the minimum fine for refusing to be vaccinated will be 3,600 euros or four months in prison for refusing to pay it. Those who ignore two notifications from the authorities about the need to get vaccinated will face a hefty fine of 7,200 euros.

The bill is due to be presented to the Austrian parliament on December 6.

On November 19, Austrian Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg announced that the country has introduced a nationwide lockdown for all residents from November 22 due to the high incidence of COVID-19 and the workload of hospital beds by patients with coronavirus. At the same time, the Chancellor announced preparations for the introduction of compulsory vaccination in the country for the entire population from February next year. “We came to a tough decision – the decision to immediately introduce a nationwide compulsory vaccination. It should start operating as early as February 2022, ”he noted.

This decision sparked a wave of protests in the country with the participation of tens of thousands of people in favor of voluntary vaccination.
