State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury visited Pasakha land port in Bhutan. On Friday (March 22), he went to Pasakha land port in Bhutan via Banglabandha land port in Panchagarh to Phulbari land port in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal.

Phuntsiling Governor Karmi Jarmi welcomed the state minister at Phuntsiling border in Bhutan. They discussed the expansion of trade between Bangladesh and Bhutan.

At this time, Chairman of Bangladesh Land Port Authority. Zillur Rahman Chowdhury, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping Munshi Md. Moniruzzaman, part-time member of the Board of Directors of Bangladesh Land Port Authority Ziauddin Ahmed Bhuiyan and Land Port Authority Supervising Engineer M Hasan Ali were present.

A delegation led by State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury went to visit the facilities, possibilities and obstacles existing in the land routes of the region for the purpose of expanding the import-export trade by land. The state minister will visit Kakarbhita on the Nepal border tomorrow.

It should be noted that through Banglabandha land port, import-export activities are conducted by land with Bhutan and Nepal through India. In recent times, attempts have been made to establish a separate zone outside the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) between Bangladesh, India, Bhutan and Nepal for regional cooperation and trade expansion. If a separate zone is formed outside the SAARC comprising of Bangladesh, India, Bhutan and Nepal, the land import and export between these countries will increase.
