The mortgage firm in Euskadi falls 36.13% after worsening its year-on-year performance in October

The home mortgage firm in the Basque Country decreased by 36.13% in October compared to the same month in 2022, higher than the 22.29% decrease registered at the national level, a figure that worsens its year-on-year evolution, up to a total of 1,333 operations in the Basque autonomous community, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) this Thursday.

If compared to the previous month of this year, mortgages signed in the Basque Country fell, with a month-on-month drop of 16.64%. In the Basque Country, 195.24 million euros were lent in October for the creation of mortgages on homes, 43.6% less of the capital lent than that granted a year ago. Compared to the previous month, the capital borrowed to establish mortgages fell by 21.72%.

Taking into account the total number of registered properties, a total of 1,779 mortgages were established in Euskadi, with a capital outlay of 294.78 million euros. Of them, 26 were on rural properties and 1,753 on urban properties. Of the 1,753 mortgages established on urban properties in October in the Basque Country, 1,333 were on homes, 18 on plots of land and 402 on other types.

On the other hand, the number of operations that changed the entity (subrogations to the creditor) was 143, while in 2 mortgages the owner of the mortgaged asset changed (subrogations to the debtor). Of the 454 mortgages with changes in their conditions, 309 were due to novation. On the other hand, 1,827 loans on properties in the Basque Country were cancelled. Of them, 1,347 corresponded to homes, 40 to rural properties, 426 to urban properties and 14 to plots of land.

Data by Autonomous Communities

By autonomous community, the number of mortgages signed fell in all the autonomous communities, compared to the previous year, except in Castilla-La Mancha, where the signing of mortgages grew by 2.48% and in the Canary Islands, with 1.49% more . In the rest, the biggest falls were recorded by Asturias (-44.06%) followed by the Balearic Islands (-40.02%) and Aragón (-39.94%).

Regarding the amount lent, the figure registered a decrease in all the autonomous communities except in Castilla-La Mancha with an increase of 1.87% year-on-year. As for the rest, the Basque Country (-43.60%), Asturias (-41.63%) and Cantabria (-40.00%) lead the declines. Meanwhile, on the opposite side are Navarra (-6.68%) and Andalusia (-14.22%).
