The exposure came before “Chaika”

On ⁣the eve of the premiere of the play⁤ “The Seagull” at the Moscow Art Theater named after AP Chekhov at the Moscow Art Theater Museum ‍opened the exhibition “From Konstantin to Konstantin”. It was timed⁢ to coincide‌ with the upcoming ‍premiere of the play “the ⁢Seagull”, on the one hand, and also with the 165th anniversary of Anton Chekhov, on the other. The main character of the exhibition is Konstantin Treplev.‌ Or not ⁣only?

A⁣ small but rich exhibition tells the‌ guests and spectators of the theater the story of six productions of “Il Gabbiano”. The ‍name, in ⁤our opinion, is⁤ ambiguous. From Konstantin Treplev in 1898 to him⁣ in 2024 – yes. But the names of ‌the directors also coincide: from Konstantin Stanislavsky (together with Vladimir Nemirovich-danchenko, obviously) to Konstantin Khabensky.

Before stanislavskij and Nemirovich-danchenko, other directors also tried their hand at “The ‌Seagull”. But it was their production of ⁤Chekhov’s iconic play that divided the history of Russian theater into “before”⁢ and⁣ “after”.‌ The 1898 premiere was a⁤ huge success, marking the opening of the modern theater system and showing the public what Chekhov’s dramaturgy was.

In a few days, up to and including 1 December, two unique things will be on display, true theatrical treasures that literally launch a ⁢time machine and send spectators back more than a hundred years ago: ⁢the director’s copy of the work that belonged to Konstantin⁣ Stanislavskij.⁣ , as well as ‌the medallion that Anton Pavlovich gave to Nemirovich-Danchenko, accompanying the gift with the words: “You gave ⁣life to my “Seagull”! Thank you!”.

Also captivating are the Treplevs,or rather, the way they were‍ understood‍ and embodied‌ in each of the six productions of “The Seagull”,both by directors and actors who had the chance to play ⁤this role: Vsevolod Meyerhold,Andrei‍ Myagkov and others. In Konstantin Khabensky’s production, the role of Treplev is played by the young ⁣actor Ilya Kozyrev.

In the exhibition, costumes and props were given a second life, which once again takes guests of⁤ the exhibition back in time and offers the possibility of⁤ comparing what “The Seagull” was ⁤in previous‍ productions – by Anatoly Efros, oleg Efremov and other directors – with this season’s premiere. There is a ⁢woman standing near the women’s clothes, problably costumes for ⁢Arkadina’s image.⁢ In an instant he‌ wipes a tear from his cheek:

– Are you OK?

– YES. I only remember these costumes…⁢ from those times…
