The winners of the competition are determined based on public opinion polls among travelers around the world, when in 2022 465,000 such polls were collected. Among other things, passengers are asked to rate the quality of the airports they visited according to 30 different issues related to the quality of service, including check-in, ease of navigation and orientation at the airport, shopping experience, quantity and quality of restaurants offered to passengers, and more.

In the “airport that serves over 40 million passengers every year” category, the airport in Mumbai, India won first place. In second place is the “Indira Gandhi” airport in Delhi, India, while in third place is the airport in the city of Guangzhou in China.

This list is mainly dominated by airports from China, India and Singapore, with the highest quality European airport serving over 40 million passengers a year being “Fiumicino” in Rome, which occupies the seventh place on the list.

The list of airports that serve between 25 and 40 million passengers per year is led by “Gimpo” airport in Seoul, the capital of South Korea. In second place is the airport in Beijing, China, and in third place is the airport in Athens, Greece. In fourth place is the airport in Palma de Mallorca, and in fifth place is the airport of Zurich in Switzerland.

And what is the “world’s most enjoyable” airport? This list is led by the “Fiumicino” airport in Rome, followed immediately by the airport in Istanbul. In third place is the airport in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, and in fourth place is Beijing in China.

In total, of the 69 airports that received overall quality awards, 24 are in Europe, 22 in the Asia-Pacific region, 11 in North America, five in Latin America or the Caribbean, four in Africa and only three airports in the Middle East.
