“The most productive form of learning is when you are slightly overwhelmed”

by time news

Düsseldorf This week, Handelsblatt Disrupt reports from the “Winter Camp” in Düsseldorf. For one day, the Handelsblatt Media Group’s innovation congress focused on the future of the economy, current challenges, new technologies and the German education system.

Among other things, Handelsblatt editor-in-chief Sebastian Matthes spoke to business administration professor and bestselling author Yasmin Weiß and Handelsblatt chief economist Bert Rürup.

Weiß talks about the most important qualifications of the future: the ability to learn and the willingness to constantly question thought patterns. She calls for teaching to be more closely linked to the free economy, especially in the area of teaching new technologies. And she dispels a myth: “Not all digital natives are digitally competent,” she says.

Instead of offering seminars, Weiß urges companies to improve the learning atmosphere for employees in the workplace. It’s not always pleasant, she says, because “the most productive form of learning is when you’re slightly overwhelmed”.

Rürup explains why Germany will continue to play a leading role in Europe, why the German business model has a future despite multiple crises and how the relationship between China and Europe will develop in the future.
