Leader of the Opposition Edappadi Palaniswami, who insisted on giving Rs 5,000 to family card holders as a special Pongal package, condemned the non-distribution of sugarcane.

During the Jayalalitha regime and continued under the leadership of Jayalalithaa, Pongal Parisasu Pongal package with cash and red bullion was given with the high intention that all the people of Tamil Nadu should celebrate Pongal Tirunalaam with great satisfaction. Farmers have grown more sugarcane with the idea that this Vidya DMK government will provide sugarcane to family card holders for Thai Pongal in 2023.

Yesterday (22.12.2022) this Vidya DMK Govt in a government press release announced about Pongal package, said that Rs 1000/- cash, one kg of sweet rice and one kg of sugar will be given to rice family card holders. When people think of Thai Pongal, it is red sugarcane.
The absence of sugarcane in the Vidya government notification is like a thunderbolt on the heads of sugarcane farmers. It has caused great disappointment among the public. Therefore, the farmers and the public have demanded that the Pongal package should include red rice.
Also, there are reports in the media that farmers are protesting in many places across Tamil Nadu demanding that the government purchase the red sugar they have grown.
This video says that the Chief Minister, who speaks bravely that we will do what we say, we will do what we do, as requested by us when we were in power, this government should provide 5,000/- rupees in cash along with 2 crore 19 lakh rice family card holders in Pongal package, and the notification should be issued immediately.
