Embracing the spirit of the great Ekushey February language movement, the movement to restore the lost democracy of Bangladesh and bring back the voting rights of the people will continue. The language movement was not just a language movement. That is actually the beginning of the independence war of Bangladesh. The spirit of the language movement later inspired the Bengali nation to participate in the war of independence. Today, there is no democracy in the country, no freedom of speech and writing. People do not have voting rights. Therefore, the one-sided movement of BNP will continue.

BNP leaders said these things in a discussion meeting organized at the Engineers Institution Auditorium in the capital on Tuesday (February 20) on the occasion of International Mother Language Day.

Barrister Zamir Uddin Sarkar, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, said that what Ziaur Rahman has done for the development of Bangladesh cannot be overstated. He made a canal digging program for the development of the country’s agriculture. He established many schools for the development of education. Despite being a small country, he took the initiative to stand on his own feet. He worked to establish our self-esteem. All parties participated in the elections that were held during his rule.

Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, another member of the party’s standing committee, said that the liberation war of Bangladesh started only through the language movement of 1952. We told Pakistanis not to accept your discriminatory rule. On that day Bengalis through their ballots made Pakistanis understand that they do not want you. As a result, the Pakistan Muslim League government collapsed.

Gayeshwar said, even today, if you count the freedom fighters, lakhs of leaders and activists of various parties have been killed, injured and tortured by those who claim to protect freedom. As a result, Sheikh Hasina has gifted lakhs of Shahid Minars to the people of the country.

Alleging that the Awami League leaders are taunting the BNP leaders, Gayeshwar said that they file cases whenever they want. Judges do not scrutinize.

He said, after taking him to prison, he took money from the activists and traded. Even after bail, time is wasted on release. This paper is that paper. This officer is that officer. Again not allowed to take outside food. But if you pay some money, you can take outside food. Where is the end of the torture? They don’t stop torturing a person until they go to the grave.

Selima Rahman, another member of BNP’s standing committee, said, “This Awami League has arrested and tortured thousands of our leaders and activists and conducted a one-sided dummy election on January 7. This government is most afraid of BNP. Its leader is Khaleda Zia. Our movement is ongoing. We called for a boycott. People responded to it. As a result we have succeeded.

Under the chairmanship of BNP Vice Chairman Abdullah Al Noman and Organizational Secretary Abdus Salam Azad and Joint Publicity Secretary Amirul Islam Khan Alim, BNP Standing Committee member Abdul Moin Khan, Vice Chairman Abdul Awal Mintu, Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, Advisor to Chairperson Zainul Abdin Farooq and others.
