The municipal police held a press briefing this Friday, December 8, 2023 to take stock of the situation with acrobatics and the non-compliance with tricycle circulation hours in the commune of Ouagadougou.

The situation of acrobatics and non-compliance with the circulation hours of tricycles in the city of Ouagadougou are punishable by a fine of 6000 FCFA according to the law. The municipal police carried out an operation on November 26, 2023 in the city of Ouagadougou, more precisely in district 12, and were able to arrest users who were engaging in acrobatics on public roads. Around fifteen devices were seized, this operation is part of the missions of managing public order disturbances of the mobile operational group (GOM).

According to Victor Bazié, director of public security, this situation of acrobatics on public roads is a question of public security. “This is a major concern for the municipal police, since our missions are the protection of property and people. We had to carry out 14 interventions in relation to this situation which allowed us to impound approximately 77 vehicles from January until today,” he declared.
Furthermore, beyond the fine, the practice of acrobatics on public roads endangers the lives of young people and those of others.
In accordance with article 512-5 of Law No. 2018-025/AN on the penal code in Burkina Faso, endangering the person of others is the act of deliberately exposing others to death or injuries. And this is punishable by a prison sentence of one to five years and a fine of two hundred and fifty thousand (250,000) to five million CFA francs (5,000,000), according to Victor Bazié.
Furthermore, the question of non-compliance with the circulation hours of tricycles in the commune of Ouagadougou was addressed. And in this sense the municipal police carried out a control operation this Thursday, December 7, 2023. The said operation made it possible to seize around 150 tricycles according to the municipal police.
As a reminder, the circulation hours of these three-wheeled vehicles are set from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. This meeting was also a forum to raise awareness among the population about the dangers of acrobatics on the tracks and the inconvenience caused by non-compliance with tricycle circulation hours.
