Reddit user @EarnSomeRespect complained about the broken Camera Control button on the iPhone 16 after the device fell on its edge. The button is covered with sapphire glass, which is scratch-resistant, but less durable when impacted, iPhones.ru reports, Day.Az reports with reference to Gazeta.ru.
It is noteworthy that the iPhone 16 with a broken button was equipped with a proprietary transparent MagSafe case, which should protect the button. However, the impact fell precisely on the key area, which led to damage.
Many third-party case manufacturers leave a large hole for the button, which increases the risk of damage if dropped. At the same time, the original cases use a special pad that reads touches and presses. Thus, cases from Apple, as well as third-party ones, cannot guarantee complete safety of the sapphire crystal on the button.
It is assumed that Apple will most likely not accept such damage under warranty. The cost of repairs is still unknown, and Chinese replacement parts are not yet available.
Some commentators believe that Apple did not foresee this scenario and may end up replacing the entire iPhone in such cases. Owners of the iPhone 16 can only be careful and try to avoid dropping the device.
