Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan, advisor to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges said, “Even if we fail, we will not fail to give the gift of safe roads to the next generation.” They will not let the nation down. They will give safe roads to the nation.
He said these things at a discussion meeting organized by the Bangladesh Road Transport and Highways Department at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Tuesday (October 22). A discussion meeting was organized on the occasion of National Safe Road Day-2024.
He said, the country had a dictatorial government for a long time, I thought, I will not be able to see the end of it. But the popular uprisings of July and August showed that anti-discrimination student movements can overthrow dictatorships.
He further said, we are at a crossroads as a nation. The reason for calling Sandhikshan is that we are in the process of transition from one time to another. We think our generation has failed in many ways. A major example of this is not being able to provide minimum safety measures on roads. But in 2018, our students have shown through their self-sacrifice and road control, how the work should be done. All those who traveled on the road at that time felt that the order of the road should be like this. Accidents were also significantly reduced then. But unfortunately we could not hold it.
It is not that we have not done or are not trying to do anything, said the Road Transport Advisor. The first change we want to make is that road accidents are no longer a statistic for us. We no longer see it as a statistic. We see it as a humanitarian issue. We see that the person who lost his life in road accident is someone’s child, someone’s father, someone’s brother. It also kills a possibility.
Senior Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Department. Chairman of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority Md. Yasin, senior secretary of the Department of Public Security of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Mohammad Abdul Momen spoke.
