Car theft in Russia has been growing since October by 25% monthly, Alfastrakhovanie reports, based on an analysis of requests from owners of comprehensive insurance policies.
Among the brands of stolen cars, Hyundai occupies the first place: these are Santa Fe (14%), Creta (5%), Palisade (5%), Sonata (4%), Tucson (4%) and Solaris (3%) models. Also this year, Kia Sorento (5%) and Kia Sportage (4%) appear in the top ten. In addition, the list includes Japanese Mitsubishi Outlander (6%), Lexus RX (4%), Toyota Camry (4%).
“There are no surprises and unexpected car brands and models in the year-end ranking. Throughout the year, the Hyundai Santa Fe has been in the lead as one of the most popular crossovers today, ”explained Alexander Haragezov, director of the insurance payments department at Alfastrakhovanie.
According to the data, an increase in the size of insurance payments for theft was also recorded. If last year the average payment was 2 million rubles, then this year it is already 3 million. First of all, this is due to a sharp increase in prices for cars and spare parts for them, insurers say.
According to the results of last year, the most stolen cars were Hyundai Solaris and Kia Rio. Toyota Camry, Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sorento also remained popular brands among car thieves. According to the statistics of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, over 1,700 thefts were registered in Russia in 11 months of 2021, which is 12% less than in 2020.
